I’m not talking about saving money such as coupon clipping and such. I mean how do you bring in any extra money?
I’m not a SAHM but I want to be, but its not possible unless I find extra income.
No avon or mary kay either, its a good idea but I dont have the confidence to go up to people or host parties on my own.

What about Scentsy? I know a girl that does really well. The parties are a little different because you do not do much talking and the people go around smelling the different scents. You just mainly have to explain how the warmer works.
I found a family that needed their kids watched and I am not a home day care I just watch these 3 boys for 150 a week. It is a good deal for us since we didn’t have that income for a long time due to me being sick.
I work from home. I am a college tutor. I make about $35,000 a year and still stay home with my twin 3 year old boys so we don’t have to pay for daycare. Everyone wins!
My husband does a weekend (local) newspaper route and makes an additional $500 a month doing that on Saturday and Sundays; it only takes a few hours. (You could do it and be back while he’s still sleeping and/or take turns w/ hubby.)
I’ve tried babysitting, and most of the time it was a good experience, probably because I just had my son at that point. Once I had my daughter, I just didn’t have the energy or the desire to do it anymore. One summer for a few months I had a night job and that was a disaster. I finally quit when I got pregnant (with my daughter). Now that I’m expecting number 3, I’m not even looking for outside work. Being a SAHM is a full time job and I know there are many who can do both, but I’d rather focus my energy on one job. Anyway, here are some ideas you might want to look into:
babysitting
pet sitting/walking
cleaning houses (I actually did this, too, while pregnant with number 2 and it actually wasn’t too hard)
selling things you make…jewelry (this is what my sister-in-law is doing and she has a 9 month old), crafts, baked goods
telemarketing (obvsiouly, no one WANTS to do this, but it is legit, unlike pretty much every offer on the internet)
I am not currently a stay-at-home mom, but I was for several years. I did not do anything to bring in extra income but considered it my privilege to discover new and unique ways to have a good quality of life for my family that didn’t cost anything or cost very little. I did use coupons as well as plan our meals around store specials. My husband and I considered the expenses we had no control over then worked together to reduce the cost of things we did have control over. It took a bit of planning and we didn’t go out as much, but we regularly read our local newspaper to discover activities the kids would enjoy but wouldn’t break the budget. I currently run a licensed child care in my home. I consider myself now to be a work-at-home mom. It doesn’t bring in that much extra money, but most of what I bring in goes towards entertainment, eating out and vacations.
You can babysit a few kids from home. It won’t bring in a ton of income, but it can help with a few bills.
Right now i am a SAHM bc i am going back to college but before i had a part time job where i worked only nights and weekends so that way either my husband or i were home with our kids while the other was at work.I loved getting out of the house, and earning my own money.
For a while i was watching my husband 2 nephews and neice, i made 100 extra dollars a week doing that. in the end i quit bc the kids were too much work and the money wasnt worth it.
I loved getting out of the house, and earning my own money.
I baby sit a couple of kids during the day. It’s by no means full time but I make just enough to pay for groceries, gas money and a few “fun” things.
I took a massive pay cut when I became a SAHM and if you go this route I would plan ahead financially to make sure you don’t get financially over extended.
I had a long response for you. But now I’m summing it up so you don’t have as much to read:
When I was a SAHM, I tried those things where you like get a commission for getting others to get a product or whatever. – It didn’t work too well. I also tried the making crafts from home thing. – I just ended up wasting a bunch of money on “start up kits” and stamps.
In 2004 I started helping my grandfather with his home business. http://www.SnugHarborProductions.com still brings me a few hundred dollars per year. To do something like it – You have to come up with something original that people want and are willing to pay money for. Not an easy feat, but very rewarding if you can do it.
In 2005 I purchased http://www.michellesdiscount.com . It is basically just an online store where I earn a commission that I set from the sales it makes. There was a large one-time fee. (which is now $99) Plus the $10 or so per year to keep my domain name. But 2008’s overall profits were about $100. (Not much, but still something!)
I also made money by doing online surveys at greenfieldonline.com . But honestly – we’re talking like $20 total last year for several hours of my time.
I consider what I mentioned above to be good if all you want is a few extra bucks. But the things I made the most money at were babysitting other kids, doing yard work for others, and I got a few dollars with my computer skills. (making business cards for a local lawn mower repair shop, helping a neighbor file her taxes @ hrblock.com, making online purchases with a walmart gift card for someone who doesn’t know how, etc…)
I know some who do some babysitting other kids at their house.
I know some who collect some cans.(I do not recommended this one)
I know some who surveys from home.
I know some who write books from home.
I know some who tutor kids.
E.T.C.
I babysit. I watch a little girl 3-5 days a week and during the summer I also watch her brother. It brings in over a hundred dollars a week….it’s grocery money.
I know you said no MK or other direct sales but I had to respond because I was in the same situation as you wanting ot be home with my daughter but thinking I couldn’t do direct sales. You would be surprised so don’t rule it out until you talk to someone and get the facts. I didn’t start out going up to strangers and now I have made so many new friend one of my closest friends was a stranger 2 years ago we met at the zoo she doesn’t use much MK but because I asked her we became good friends it really changed my life and I have grown as a person plus I have fun while contribution to the household income with a consumable product…………..
They teach you how in a way that works for you and for holding the classes I use to hold individual appointments or only 2 or 3 people at a time because it made me sick to talk in front of people. I could go on but I think you get the point I just wanted to share I know how you feel and I felt the same way but it changed my life.
